Museum Ostwall, Dortmund
Expressionist art characterizes the collection of the Museum Ostwall, together with the focus on Fluxus. “In the 75th anniversary year, there is a desire to expand the Expressionist collection with female positions. The Friends of the Museum would very much like to support this,” says Benjamin Sieber, Chairman of the Friends of the MO. The Friends of the Museum Ostwall are donating 30,000 euros, in addition to a significant sum from the cultural institutions and the Museum Ostwall – but the support of the urban community is also required.
The painting “Evening from the window/view of Rue Lamblardie, Paris” (1930) fits in with the aim of the Museum Ostwall: it expands the Expressionist collection with an important, internationally recognized female position. The painting by Gabriele Münter shows a train with a steaming locomotive running through an evening cityscape. It skillfully combines Münter’s great interest in machines and technology with the atmospheric Parisian scenery. The work marks the beginning of an important series of works that reveal her innovative creative power and her significant role within European modernism.
In order to be able to successfully implement the ambitious purchase, the Crowdfunding-campaign has been launched: The Friends of Museum Ostwall’s appeal goes out to all citizens of the city, companies, associations and anyone interested in art. Via the platform of Dortmunder Volksbank many-create-more.com the funding target of 75,000 euros by June 1 be achieved. The Friends of the MO would like to present the artwork to the museum as a birthday gift at a symposium on Leonie Reygers on June 13.
