Objekte der Begierde – Konrad Klapheck und seine Welt der Dinge

Deutsche Bundesbank, Düsseldorf

The Bundesbank in Düsseldorf is dedicating this year’s art exhibition to Konrad Klapheck. Under the title “Objects of Desire”, a select collection of works by the artist, who passed away in 2023, is on display. Alongside paintings, the exhibition presents, for the first time, numerous objects that served as models for Klapheck’s famous “machine paintings”. The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with the Rheinisches Archiv für Künstlernachlässe (RAK) in Bonn, with items on loan from private collections.

The exhibition offers an insight into Klapheck’s early creative phase. On display are personal documents, works from his time at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, collected everyday objects and numerous drawings. Memories and found objects from his childhood, such as typewriters, sewing machines and shower heads, formed the basis of his precisely constructed, formal art. All the objects painted by Klapheck acquired distinctive characters through their alienation and titles.

Further details and information on guided tours of the exhibition can be found on the Bundesbank’s website.
