1884 — Born on Dezember 1st in Rottluff.
1905 — Studies architecture in Dresden. Founding member of the artist group the „Brücke“.
1906 — Acquaintance with Emil Nolde, Gustav Schiefler and Dr. Rosa Schapire.
1907—1910 — Recurring stays in Dangast with Erich Heckel.
1911 — Moves to Berlin. Journey to Norway.
1912 — Participation at the Sonderbundausstellung, Cologne. Friendship with Lyonel Feininger.
1915—1918 — Military service.
1919 — Marries Emy Frisch.
1923 — Trip to Italy with Georg Kolbe and Richard Scheibe.
1930 — Guest of Villa Massimo, Rom.
1931 — Member of the Preußische Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
1933 — Exclusion from the academy.
1938 — 608 works are confiscated from German museums by the Nazi regime.
1941 — Occupational ban.
1943 — Moves to Rottluff.
1947—1954 — Professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Berlin.
1957 — Awarded the medal „Pour le Mérite“
1967 — Opening of the „Brücke“ Museum in Berlin (donation by the artist).
1974 — Awarded the Lovis Corinth-Prize.
1976 — Dies on August 10th in Berlin.
