1874 — Born on 16th of October in Liebau, Silesia.
1890—1894 — Apprenticeship as a lithographer in Görlitz.
1894—1897 — Studies at the Academy of Art in Dresden.
1898 — Studies at the Kunstakademie München.
1890 — Birth of the son Eugen.
1900 — Travels to Switzerland and Italy together with Gerhard and Ivo Hauptmann.
1904 — Acquaintance with Paula Modersohn-Becker.
1905 — Marries Maria (Maschka) Mayerhofer.
1908 — Moves to Berlin. Acquaintance with Wilhelm Lehmbruck.
1910 — Joins the “Brücke”.
1916—18 — Military service.
1919 — Professor at the Breslau Academy.
1924 — Marries Elbeth Lübke.
1925 — Birth of the second son Josef.
1930 — Marries Elfriede Timm.
1930 — Dies on 24th of September in a sanatorium in Obernigk near Breslau.
1937 — 357 works are confiscated from german museums by the Nazi regime.
